In the Beginning – Part 1: Overcoming Fear

“for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” – 2 Timothy 1:7
If you’re like me, you flinch if you even think that something will hurt.
Maybe it is those same thoughts that stop you from starting something amazing.
For me, it wouldn’t be the first time. I’ve missed countless opportunities to serve others simply because I thought it sounded:
time consuming
(Fill in the blank)
Without even knowing if any of it was true. Just the thought of it being tedious or unpleasant would make me likely to say no.

But then Christ.

Christ said yes to you and I. Unlike my speculations, Christ knew that when He came to this earth, He would leave:
Infinite time and space
True joy
The presence of God in paradise
And traded it for
Restricted time and space
Being hated
Being betrayed
To top it all off, Jesus did all that, before we even chose Him. (Romans 5:8)
Jesus gave His all for me. The least I can do is give my all to Him and others.

That was then, this is now.

That doesn’t mean that I don’t say no from time to time. What it means is that I don’t allow uncertainty stop me from saying yes. Now, even if I am certain about the challenge ahead, I can charge ahead knowing that He who has called me is faithful and will do it. (Bible verse)
So what does this have to do with BlessedTo?
I’ve been wanting to start a business for a while, knowing that God has given me the ability to do so. We wanted to start something that could change a person’s life, no matter how small the change.
But I realized it would take a lot of work–
A lot of work that may not even work out. They say that 80% of business fail before their second year.
I realized that it consume the majority of my free time.
Within a few months, I could easily get overwhelmed and even want to quit.
So, I didn’t. Business ideas were buried or rather, “saved for a more suitable time.”
As I reflected on what Christ has done for me, the real answer became clear:

Now is the time.

If God is for me, who can be against me? That doesn’t mean it will be all sparkles from here on out and that is okay. Success here will mostly be measured by two things:
1) Faithfulness and 2) our impact in the lives of others for good.
